Another prison officer dies following Negombo Prison Clash
Another prison officer who sustained injuries during the clash at the Negombo Prison earlier in the week has succumbed to his injuries, authorities said.
He passed away while receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.
Accordingly, the number of individuals died following the clashes on July 5 and 6 at the Negombo Prison has increased to 28.
Eight among them are prison officers while the remaining 20 are inmates.
Meanwhile, the government appointed a Committee of Inquiry to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the unrest at the Negombo Prison and report on the circumstances that led to the incident.
