A special technical project to clean the Beira Lake by introducing seawater into the lake is set to be launched as an immediate and short-term solution.
Sri Lankan business tycoon and engineer Nahil Wijesuriya has reportedly agreed to provide full financial support for the project.
Meanwhile, long-term plans to ensure the lake's cleanliness and aesthetic appeal are expected to be implemented under this year's government budget allocations.
The initiative will be jointly carried out by the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC), the Urban Development Authority (UDA), and the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation (SLLDC).
The decisions were discussed at a special meeting held today (09) at the Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple, chaired and guided by its Chief Incumbent, Venerable Dr. Kirinde Assaji Thera.
The meeting brought together representatives from both the public and private sectors to discuss the Beira Lake Immediate Clean-Up Project.
Further discussions focused on the implementation of the project's next phases.
