The Gangodawila Magistrate’s Court has imposed fines totalling Rs. 2.1 million on a group of individuals, including homeowners, for maintaining premises conducive to the breeding of dengue mosquitoes.
Nalin Caldera, Administrative Public Health Inspector of the Maharagama Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Office, stated that this is the highest amount of fines imposed within a single day in connection with dengue-related offences.
He further stated that legal action was initiated against the individuals following inspections conducted as part of a dengue prevention programme carried out over the past several days within the Maharagama MOH division.
Meanwhile, Nalin Caldera urged residents to maintain clean surroundings and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of dengue, noting that dengue control programmes will continue to be conducted in the future.
