The Lanka Premier League (LPL), Sri Lanka's premier franchise T20 competition, is set to return for its sixth season from July 17 to August 8, 2026, with live coverage on Star Sports as the tournament builds on strong audience momentum and growing international interest.

Organised by Sri Lanka Cricket, with commercial rights held by Innovative Production Group FZ, LLC (IPG), the Lanka Premier League has strengthened its position as one of South Asia's leading franchise T20 competitions.

The Lanka Premier League has become a valuable pathway for Sri Lankan players to compete alongside and learn from some of the world's leading cricketers. Featuring 62 Sri Lankan players and 32 overseas stars this season, the tournament continues to provide local talent with exposure to elite competition, international experience and high-performance environments. In doing so, LPL has emerged as an important contributor to the development of Sri Lankan cricket while strengthening its connection with the global game.

Commenting on the upcoming season, Anil Mohan Sankhdhar, Founder and CEO of IPG Group and official rights holder of the Lanka Premier League, said, "The Lanka Premier League continues to strengthen its position within the global cricket ecosystem. The record interest shown by players this season, with more than 650 overseas registrations from 21 countries reflects the growing appeal of the league among both players and fans worldwide. As we enter our sixth season, our ambition extends beyond staging a successful tournament. We are committed to creating a platform that contributes to the growth of Sri Lankan cricket, provides opportunities for emerging talent to compete alongside some of the world's best players, and delivers a world-class experience for fans across markets. The continued growth of the league is a testament to the progress we have made and the opportunities that lie ahead."

Commenting on the upcoming season, Samantha Dodanwela, Tournament Director of the Lanka Premier League, said, "Season 6 represents another exciting milestone in the journey of the Lanka Premier League. The quality and diversity of players participating this year reflects the growing strength of the tournament, with a strong mix of international stars and emerging Sri Lankan talent ready to compete on one platform. With world-class broadcast coverage, passionate fans and some of the biggest names in cricket set to take the field, we are looking forward to delivering another memorable season of high-quality T20 cricket."

LPL 2026 will showcase one of the league's strongest player line-ups to date, bringing together some of the biggest names in international cricket alongside Sri Lanka's finest talent. Fans can look forward to watching stars such as Moeen Ali, Jimmy Neesham, Shakib Al Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Wanindu Hasaranga, Angelo Mathews, Kusal Mendis and Dasun Shanaka in action, while the highly anticipated Lanka Premier League debut of Indian international Vijay Shankar further highlights the tournament's growing reputation as a destination for elite cricketing talent from around the world.

With record international player interest, growing audience engagement and an increasingly global footprint, LPL 2026 is set to mark another significant milestone in the league's evolution. As it enters its sixth season, the Lanka Premier League continues to strengthen its position as one of the region's most compelling cricket properties, connecting talent, fans and partners through one of the region's most compelling T20 competitions.
