Argentina booked their place in the World Cup semi-finals after edging Switzerland 3-1 following extra time, with Julian Alvarez striking the decisive goal in a tense quarter-final on Saturday.

 

Alexis Mac Allister scored the defending champions' opener on 10 minutes, but Switzerland slowly got into the game and Dan Ndoye finished off a well-worked move to bring them level midway through the second half.
