The Department of Prisons has decided to conduct court proceedings of inmates transferred from the Negombo Prison to other prisons through video technology.
Prisons Spokesperson Commissioner A.C. Gajanayake said inmates scheduled to appear before courts from tomorrow (13) will be connected to proceedings through video links.
A group of inmates were transferred to other prisons following a recent clash at the Negombo Prison. The Department of Prisons said transporting the transferred inmates to courts for their cases had become a challenge.
The decision was therefore taken to facilitate their court appearances through video technology, Commissioner Gajanayake said.
Meanwhile, the Department of Prisons has appointed a three-member committee to assess the damage caused by the recent clash at the Negombo Prison.
