Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that the government is currently considering requests received from various sectors regarding a revision of the retirement age.

The Minister made these remarks while addressing the media following his participation in the opening ceremony of the newly established kidney stone treatment unit at Mirigama Hospital yesterday (12).

During the media briefing, Minister Jayatissa stated that requests had been submitted by several professional groups seeking an extension of the retirement age. He noted that the government would carefully review these appeals before making a final decision.

Elaborating on the matter, Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa stated that requests had been received from various professional groups, including members of the judiciary such as officials serving in the Court of Appeal, Supreme Court, and High Court, as well as certain professionals in the health sector.

He added that similar requests had also been received from officers of the Department of Prisons.

He further stated that other professionals had also expressed their views, noting that they remain capable of continuing their duties for a longer period and requesting an increase in the retirement age.

The Minister added that while there may be differing opinions on the matter, the government is currently reviewing all requests received and will take appropriate action after careful consideration.
