The Governor of the Central Province, Prof. Sarath Abayakoon has submitted his letter of resignation from the post of Governor to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

When inquired by Ada Derana, Prof. Abayakoon said he has not yet received a response to the resignation letter sent to the President several days ago, and that the President has so far made no official statement on whether the resignation has been accepted or rejected.
He further stated that his decision to resign was based on personal reasons.

Prof. Sarath Abeykoon previously served as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya.

Meanwhile, the position of Secretary to the Central Province Governor also remains vacant following the recent retirement of Manjula Madahapola, who held the post.
