The body of a man suspected to have been murdered has been discovered in a canal at Pitipana, Homagama, in the early hours of today (16), according to the Homagama Police.

Police suspect that the victim was murdered at a nearby land before the body was dumped in the canal.

Investigators had recovered a pair of shoes believed to have belonged to the deceased, along with a Rs. 20 currency note, from the land.

Police further stated that the victim's face had been severely disfigured and has been partially eaten by wild animals, making identification difficult.

Meanwhile, the Meegoda Police had received a complaint regarding a missing man from Samagi Mawatha, Kadanawatta, Pitipana, Homagama, who had been missing since last night (15). Police said the details in the missing person report closely match those of the deceased.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the missing individual was employed at a garment factory and also worked part-time as a taxi driver.

He had reportedly left home at around 7.00 p.m. yesterday to transport another on his motorcycle.

Homagama Police have launched further investigations into the incident.
