
The newly appointed 27th Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Damian Fernando, has met Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya at Temple Trees today (16).
This was the first meeting between the Prime Minister and the newly appointed Commander of the Navy following his assumption of office, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Media Division.
During the meeting, focus was drawn on the role of the Sri Lanka Navy in ensuring national and maritime security, the importance of further strengthening coordination among state institutions, and cooperation towards national development, the statement said.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya extended her congratulations to the newly appointed Commander of the Navy and commended the dedicated service of the Sri Lanka Navy in safeguarding the country's maritime boundaries, ensuring national security, and contributing to the welfare of the people.
She also conveyed her best wishes for his success in carrying out the responsibilities of his new appointment, it added.
The occasion was attended by the Secretary to the Prime Minister, Pradeep Saputhanthri.
