A bus and a tipper truck collided on Govinna Road in Athurugiriya, causing a complete obstruction of traffic, according to the Police.
The accident occurred at around 4:15 a.m. today when a staff transport bus and a tipper truck collided head-on near Govinna Road, along the Godagama–Borella main road.
Traffic on the road was disrupted for nearly two hours following the collision, bringing vehicles to a standstill.
Nearly 20 individuals who sustained minor injuries in the accident were admitted to the Oruwala and Homagama Base Hospitals for treatment, said Ada Derana reporter.
The bus driver was also hospitalized after rescue personnel took approximately one hour and 45 minutes to extricate him from the vehicle.
Both the tipper truck and the bus sustained extensive damage in the accident.
Athurugiriya Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
