
Further investigations into the death of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D. Wickramaratne are being conducted by the Crime Division of the Western Province South Range and the Malabe Police Station, according to Sri Lanka Police.
Investigations commenced following information received by the Malabe Police Station that former IGP C.D. Wickramaratne had died after being admitted to the Colombo East Base Hospital (CEBH) in Mulleriyawa, with gunshot injuries.
Police said that gunshot injuries were sustained in an incident at his residence on Parakum Road in Thalangama, within the jurisdiction of the Malabe Police Division, this morning (17).
The remains of the deceased have been placed at the Colombo East Base Hospital, Mulleriyawa, where the post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted, said police.
C.D. Wickramaratne served as the 35th Inspector General of the Sri Lanka Police from November 27, 2020, to November 23, 2023. He was 63 years old at the time of his death.
