
The Fort Magistrate’s Court today (17) ordered the arrest and production before court of six accused, including Deputy Minister of Urban Development Eranga Gunasekara and Member of Parliament Jagath Manuwarna.
The order was issued after the six accused, who are currently out on bail, failed to appear before the court in connection with a case alleging that they participated in protests and were members of an unlawful assembly in violation of a court order.
Accordingly, arrest warrants were issued for Deputy Minister Eranga Gunasekara, MP Jagath Manuwarna, Roshan Ali Dhaniz Ali, Amal Salinda alias "Army Amila", Udayanga Kumara, and the Venerable Koswatte Mahanama Thero.
Additional Magistrate Kingsley Hettiarachchi also issued notices to the bail sureties and postponed the case until December 4, 2026.
Meanwhile, 13 of the accused appeared before the court, including former Inter-University Students' Federation (IUSF) Convener Wasantha Mudalige, Ruhuna University Students' Union Convener Anthony Weranga Pushpika de Silva, Jehan Appuhamy, and the Venerable Rathkarawwe Jinarathana Thero.
The Fort Police have filed charges against a total of 15 accused, including Wasantha Mudalige, Weranga Pushpika de Silva, Roshan Ali Dhaniz Ali, Amal Salinda alias "Army Amila", Jehan Appuhamy, Jagath Manuwarna, the Venerable Rathkarawwe Jinarathana Thero, and the Venerable Koswatte Mahanama Thero.
The accused have been charged with participating in protests in violation of a court order and using criminal force against police officers.
