Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Parliamentarian Ajith P. Perera has stated that the opposition will submit the no-confidence motion brought against Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara to the Speaker of Parliament next week.

MP Ajith P. Perera alleged that the Justice Minister has neglected all his responsibilities.

The opposition has decided to submit the no-confidence motion against the Justice Minister due to his failure to fulfill his responsibility and accountability regarding the safety of the prison officers and inmates who were killed due to the unrest that occurred in the Negombo prison.

Accordingly, the opposition MPs, including the Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, signed the no-confidence motion against the Justice Minister in Parliament on July 10.

Meanwhile, the opposition had previously moved a no-confidence motion against former Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody over the substandard coal incident.

The relevant debate was held in Parliament on April 10, and the motion presented by the Opposition party members against the then Minister of Energy, Kumara Jayakody, was defeated by a majority of 104 votes, with 153 MPs voting against it and 49 voting in favour.

Furthermore, the opposition had earlier taken steps to move a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister and Minister of Education Dr. Harini Amarasuriya in January.

The motion was signed by opposition MPs on January 7, citing concerns over alleged shortcomings in the Government's education reforms, including content deemed unsuitable for children and subject-related issues, as well as lack of adequate measures to address those concerns.
