Egg prices will be increased from tomorrow (20), with the selling price of a white egg rising to Rs. 41 and a red egg to Rs. 42, according to the All Ceylon Egg Producers’ Association.

The President of the Association, Sarath Ratnayake announced the price revision during a media briefing held in Kuliyapitiya today (19).

He claimed that the government and relevant authorities are directly responsible for the increase in egg prices, citing issues related to poultry feed supplies.

Ratnayake said maize imports have been completely suspended, while locally produced maize is insufficient to meet the requirements of the egg industry.

He further stated that the use of alternative feed ingredients, including rice, has affected poultry health and digestion, leading to a 20–30% reduction in egg production.

The Association President also alleged that the use of chemicals and medicines in animal feed by certain traders has resulted in the deaths of a large number of poultry.

He said farmers have suffered significant losses due to the situation, while daily egg production has also declined considerably.

Ratnayake added that although authorities are aware of the issues faced by the industry, no effective solution has been implemented so far.
