True leadership is not measured by titles or power, but by the ability to act responsibly, show compassion and work for the well-being of others, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated.

The Prime Minister made these remarks while attending the President’s Guide Award and Prime Minister’s Award Ceremony organized by the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association at Temple Trees in Colombo.

During the ceremony, Dr. Amarasuriya presented medals and certificates to award recipients, with a total of 350 awards being presented this year. The awards included 338 President’s Guide Awards and 12 Prime Minister’s Awards, recognizing the recipients’ discipline, resilience, integrity, and commitment to serving society.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister praised the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association for its commitment to providing equal opportunities for every child, regardless of background or ability.

“True leadership is not defined by titles or power, but by acting responsibly, listening with compassion, and working for the well-being of others,” she said.

Dr. Amarasuriya noted that although women had fewer opportunities in the past, girls and young women today are making significant progress across all sectors as greater opportunities continue to emerge.

She emphasized that every girl and young woman should have equal opportunities to develop their skills and abilities, adding that Sri Lanka needs a new generation of women leaders who are prepared to contribute towards building a better future for the country.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of developing strong ethical values and social responsibility alongside economic growth, particularly as Sri Lanka continues its economic and democratic reforms.

She commended the contribution of the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association in nurturing responsible, capable, and socially conscious young citizens.
