President Anura Kumara Dissanayake held a discussion today (20) at the Presidential Secretariat on the challenges currently affecting Sri Lanka’s prison system and the measures needed to address them.
Officials from the relevant ministries and the Department of Prisons participated in the meeting, where proposals and recommendations aimed at resolving issues within the prison system were presented, the President’s Media Division said in a statement.
The President reviewed the suggestions made by officials and held discussions on possible solutions, including the expansion of prison facilities and the introduction of alternative measures to improve the system, the PMD said.
Minister of Justice and National Integration Harshana Nanayakkara, Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala, Secretary to the Ministry of Justice and National Integration Ayesha Jinasena, Commissioner General of Prisons Prasad Hemantha Kumara, and senior officials of the Department of Prisons were present at the meeting, the PMD added.
