Kandy Royals defeated Dambulla Sixers by 43 runs for the first win of this year’s Lanka Premier League at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium last evening (21).
After being sent into bat first in the sixth game of the tournament, Kandy went onto post a daunting 194/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Lahiru Udara top scored with a 34-ball 51. Skipper Angelo Mathews, Wanindu Hasaranga, Kusal Perera and England’s Moeen Ali hit 20s for Kandy. For the Sixers, Fazalhaq Farooqi picked up 2/20.
Dambulla opener Sahibzada Farhan provided a quick-fire start to the chase, hitting 61 runs in the power play overs.
He went on to score 74 off just 45 deliveries. However, the rest of the Dambulla batters failed to support Farhan to reach the tricky target.
Only Niroshan Dickwella and Reeza Hendricks hit 20s as Kandy ended the innings on 151/8.
Nuwan Thushara was the pick of the bowlers finishing with figures of 4/29.
Meanwhile, Colombo Kaps will take on Jaffna Kings at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium at 3:00 p.m today while Dambulla Sixers will return to action against Galle Gallants at the same venue at 7:30 p.m.
