The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has announced that the public consultation process to obtain views on determining the purchase prices for electricity generated from renewable energy sources will conclude today (22).

The PUCSL Director – Corporate Communications, Jayanath Herath said that the purchase price for renewable energy electricity for the next six months will be determined based on the opinions and feedback received during the consultation process.

Under the Sri Lanka Electricity Reform Act, the authority to determine and approve the applicable prices and pricing formulas for electricity generated from renewable energy sources and purchased by the successor companies of the Ceylon Electricity Board has been assigned to the Public Utilities Commission.

Herath said that pricing formulas have been prepared and approved for purchasing electricity generated from renewable energy sources such as solar, wind and biomass.

He further stated that a public consultation process on determining electricity prices based on these formulas was launched around two months ago. During this period, discussions were held with various stakeholders, and the necessary data was collected for the price determination process.
