Police have seized more than 300 illegally imported smartphones, including the latest iPhone models, with an estimated value of about Rs. 50 million, during a raid conducted by the Walana Anti-Vice Squad at a shop in Liberty Plaza.
A suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure, police said.
The stock of smartphones, which had been illegally imported into the country, was discovered in a basement storage facility of a shop located at Liberty Plaza in Kollupitiya.
Police said the seized consignment of mobile phones will be handed over to Sri Lanka Customs for further action.
Further investigations to identify the individuals responsible for importing the consignment into the country are being conducted by the Walana Anti-Vice Squad in collaboration with Sri Lanka Customs.
