Traffic along the Hatton–Colombo main road in the Malliappuwa area has been severely disrupted this morning (23) after a large tree collapsed onto the road.
The incident had occurred at around 6:10 a.m., during the busy morning rush hour when a large number of office workers, schoolchildren and other commuters were travelling along the route.
The fallen tree caused heavy traffic congestion on both sides of the road, leaving many commuters stranded and inconvenienced.
Following the incident, area residents, estate workers, personnel from the Road Development Authority (RDA) and officers from the Hatton Police joined efforts to remove the tree.
After an operation lasting nearly an hour, the obstruction was completely cleared, and traffic has since resumed as normal.
