The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) says it has purchased a total of 5,390 metric tonnes of paddy thus far under its 2026 Yala season paddy procurement programme.

PMB Deputy General Manager (Operations) Saman Palitha Bandara stated that the aforementioned quantity has been purchased since the procurement programme commenced on July 13.

According to the PMB, the largest volume of paddy has been procured from the Ampara District, with 3,148 metric tonnes purchased so far.

In addition, 567 metric tonnes have been purchased from the Anuradhapura District, while 620 metric tonnes have been procured from the Vavuniya District.

Bandara further stated that additional paddy storage facilities will be opened in line with the progress of harvesting in other areas.

Accordingly, the PMB plans to open 148 paddy warehouses across the island to facilitate the procurement of the Yala season harvest.
