The Colombo High Court today (24) ordered that the case filed against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, be taken up for further hearing on August 20.

The case was called before Colombo High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga, today (24).

However, the accused, Yoshitha Rajapaksa, did not appear before the court for today’s hearing, said Ada Derana reporter.

Appearing on his behalf, President's Counsel Sampath Mendis informed the court that his client was unwell and requested another date for the hearing.

After considering the facts, the High Court judge ordered that the case be taken up on August 20 for further hearings.

The judge also directed the witnesses, including several navy personnel who were present in court to give evidence, to appear on the next hearing date.

The Attorney General had filed the case against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, alleging that he committed an offence under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act through the purchase of five plots of land in the Dehiwala and Ratmalana areas, valued at more than Rs. 73 million.
