A former Chief Secretary of the Southern Province has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over procurement-related corruption allegations.
According to CIABOC, the arrest stems from an investigation into the procurement of chairs for public voluntary organisations under Rs. 16.5 million in allocations provided to Southern Provincial Council members in 2019.
The project was implemented through the Southern Province Development Authority, which operated under the purview of the Southern Province Chief Ministry.
Investigators allege that the former top official selected a manufacturing company outside the prescribed procurement procedure, granting it an undue advantage and thereby causing a financial loss to the government.
Accordingly, the suspect, identified as ‘Rannulu Chandrasiri de Soysa,’ former Chief Secretary of the Southern Province, was arrested by CIABOC investigators at around 12:30 p.m. today (24).
He is scheduled to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
