The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) has purchased 19,592 metric tons of paddy since July as part of its ongoing purchasing programme for the Yala cultivation season, PMB Chairman Manjula Pinnalanda said.
He said paddy purchases are continuing without interruption, with the board taking steps to purchase the harvest from farmers across the country.
The PMB Chairman said more warehouses will be opened based on harvesting areas, adding that more than 100 storage facilities are currently open to support the purchasing process.
He further stated that all warehouses in the Polonnaruwa District have not yet been opened, with only a limited number currently operating.
PMB Chairman Pinnalanda said additional storage facilities in areas where harvesting has not yet commenced will be opened once harvesting activities begin, ensuring farmers have access to the government purchasing programme.
