Schools to close for August holidays tomorrow, reopen on Sept. 7

Government schools and government-approved private schools will close for the August holidays tomorrow (07) and will reopen on September 7, according to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education.

 

The Ministry announced that the first phase of the third school term for 2026 will end tomorrow for Sinhala and Tamil medium schools.
The first phase of the third term for Muslim schools will end on Wednesday, September 2.

 

The second phase of the third school term will commence for all schools on Monday, September 7, and will continue until Friday, December 4, 2026.

 

The Ministry also stated that the 2026 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination will be held from August 10 to September 5, 2026.

 

The announcement was issued by the Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education.
