Four fishermen arrested with over 223kg of illegal shark meat
Four fishermen have been arrested by the Sri Lanka Coast Guard for possessing 223.94 kilograms of illegally harvested thresher shark meat and fins concealed aboard a multi-day fishing vessel at the Suduwella Fisheries Harbour.
The Coast Guard said the haul, which included thresher shark meat and fins, was seized and the fishermen arrested for violating the provisions of Extraordinary Gazette No. 1938/2 of October 26, 2015.
The four suspects, who were arrested yesterday (05), along with the seized consignment of shark meat and the fishing vessel, were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector's Office in Suduwella for legal proceedings.
