UPDATE: The unrest reportedly began at around 10.20 p.m. when a group of inmates detained in the 'E' ward of the prison suddenly behaved in a disorderly manner after exiting the ward.
It is also reported that the cause of this tense situation was a conflict over drugs.
However, in order to control the situation, the Police, the Police Riot Control Unit and the Police Special Task Force (STF) have been immediately called to the scene and steps have been taken to tighten security in and around the prison.
The police further stated that the tense situation has been brought under control to some extent and that security has been ensured within the prison premises.
