UPDATE: Prison officials have used tear gas to control the tense situation at Kuruwita Prison.

 

 

A tense situation has arisen inside Kuruwita Prison today (7), according to police.

 

A prison spokesperson stated that the unrest first broke out last night (6), and measures were taken to bring the situation under control. 

 

However, unrest erupted again among the inmates this morning. It is also reported that a group of inmates caused damage to the prison hospital.
