Investigation launched into Kuruwita Prison and Pallansena Prison unrest
The Department of Prisons says an investigation has been launched into the unrest that arose at the Kuruwita Prison and the Pallansena Open-Air Correctional Center in Dalupotha, Negombo.
Issuing a statement, the Department said the situation at both Prisons, which had remained tense earlier today (07), has now been brought under control by prison officials.
The Department noted that assistance from the Sri Lanka Police and the Police Special Task Force (STF) was sought to contain the unrest.
Meanwhile, security at both prison facilities has been further strengthened with the deployment of the Sri Lanka Police, the Police Special Task Force, and the Tri-Forces.
