Six suspects have been arrested by the Crimes Prevention Unit of the Mount Lavinia Police in the Gona Kowila area of Rathmalana, along with three swords, three knives, a locally manufactured hand grenade, and  sharp weapons.

Police also recovered Rs. 300,000 in cash suspected to have been earned through drug trafficking, along with eight mobile phones in the possession of the suspects.

The arrests were made following the earlier apprehension of a person with 1,000 milligrams of Crystal Methamphetamine (Ice) by an officer attached to the Special Motorcycle Unit of the Mount Lavinia Police in the Arthur Place area of Rathmalana.

During questioning, the suspect had revealed information regarding the location where the drugs were obtained, leading police to a house allegedly used for drug distribution.

Police subsequently carried out a search operation at the location, during which the weapons and cash were recovered.

The main suspect arrested in connection with the incident is a 29-year-old, while the other suspects, aged 33, 22, 24, 51 and 36, are residents of Rathmalana, Nawalapitiya and Eheliyagoda.

The suspects are scheduled to be produced before a Magistrate, after which police are expected to seek detention orders for further investigations.
