Police officers have arrested two suspects who were allegedly trying to deliver drugs and other contraband to inmates at the Magazine Prison in Borella by throwing them over the prison wall.
The two suspects were arrested this evening (08) during an operation carried out near the side wall of Magazine Prison on the Baseline Road.
The two suspects were arrested by the police as they had attempted to throw two parcels into the prison at that location.
During the inspection of the parcels in the possession of the suspects, around 22 grams and 250 milligrams of the drug known as ‘Ice’ (crystal methamphetamine), 02 milligrams of Hash, 250 grams of tobacco leaves, 02 phone chargers, 02 pairs of earrings, 10 lighters and 02 small mobile phones were also taken into police custody.
Police said that the two suspects who were arrested are both 29 years old and residents of Colombo 14.
The arrested suspects are scheduled to be produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (09), and further investigations are being conducted by Borella Police.
