
A 21-year-old Tunisian national who went missing after being caught in a strong current while surfing off the Weligama coast has been found dead.
Weligama Police said the tourist’s body was recovered after it washed ashore at the Weligama Parana Kade Beach this morning (09).
The deceased was part of a group of Tunisian tourists who had been surfing at the Parana Kade Beach yesterday afternoon (08).
Police said the tourist went missing after being caught in a strong current amid rough sea conditions caused by strong winds.
Police lifeguards, Coast Guard personnel, and private divers conducted search operations to locate the missing tourist, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
The body was subsequently found washed ashore at the Parana Kade Beach this morning.
Weligama Headquarters Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
