A century partnership between India captain Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal helped visitors secure a six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka XI in a three-day warm-up match in Colombo this evening.
Gill returned to action on the final day after missing the first two days due to a finger injury sustained during training.
He played a key role in the successful chase of 207 runs.
Sri Lanka XI won the toss and opted to bat first, declaring their innings at 363 for 8. Ravindu Rasantha scored 71 runs from 143 balls, including six fours and a six, while Nishan Fernando made 66 runs from 65 balls with 11 fours and a six. Captain Sonal Dinusha contributed 52 runs from 72 balls with five fours and a six.
For India, Manav Suthar took 2 for 33, Ravindra Jadeja 2 for 64, and Kuldeep Yadav 2 for 76. Aquib Nabi, who was drafted as an injury replacement for Jasprit Bumrah, did not bowl any overs.
Debutant Saransh Jain bowled and recorded figures of 0 for 54.
In response, India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck early but a partnership of 96 runs between KL Rahul, who scored 40 runs from 67 balls with five fours and a six, and Devdutt Padikkal steadied the innings.
Ravindra Jadeja made 63 runs off 117 balls, including seven fours, before retiring hurt after a 74-run partnership with Padikkal. Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel were dismissed cheaply.
Padikkal then formed an 82-run stand with Manav Suthar, who scored 41 runs from 90 balls with five fours and a six. India declared at 357 for 6, trailing by six runs.
Padikkal produced a remarkable unbeaten 142 off 164 balls, including 18 fours. Lower order batsmen Saransh Jain scored 22 from 45 balls with three fours, and Gurnoor Brar remained unbeaten on 36 runs from 18 balls with four sixes.
For Sri Lanka XI, Asanka Manoj took 2 for 32 and Ramesh Mendis 2 for 77.
In their second innings, Sri Lanka XI declared at 200 for 6. Nishan Fernando scored 63 runs off 73 balls with 10 fours, Nipun Dhananjaya made 46 runs from 56 balls with five fours, and Anjala Bandara contributed 35 runs from 48 balls with four boundaries and a six.
Jadeja took 2 for 33 and Brar 2 for 37 among the wickets for India, with Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna claiming one each. Nabi bowled five overs, conceding 27 runs.
During the final run chase of 207, Jaiswal made 61 runs from 46 balls, including nine fours and two sixes, before retiring hurt.
He shared a 105-run partnership with captain Gill, who scored 44 runs from 54 balls with seven fours on his return. Pant added 28 runs from 68 balls with a four and three sixes. Jadeja also contributed 22 runs from 32 balls with three fours before retiring hurt.
Mohammed Siraj remained unbeaten with 32 runs off 15 balls, including a four and four sixes, and Saransh Jain was not out on 2 as India finished on 214 for 4 in 45 overs to secure victory.
