
Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari stated that steps will be taken to release the results of the 2026 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination before the end of this year.
Speaking at a press conference held this morning (10), the Commissioner General said that the evaluation of answer scripts is scheduled to commence on September 3.
The 2026 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination commenced today (10) and will be conducted until September 5 at 2,532 examination centres across the island.
A total of 372,310 candidates are sitting for the examination, including 264,496 school applicants and 107,814 private applicants.
Commissioner General Indika Kumari stated that examination activities commenced as scheduled at 8:30 a.m. today, with no issues reported so far.
She urged candidates to carefully follow the revised examination timetable and appear for each examination on the correct date and at the designated time.
Candidates were also advised not to bring prohibited items, including mobile phones, smartwatches, electronic devices, or notes, into examination halls.
The Commissioner General warned that strict disciplinary action, including the suspension of examination results, will be taken against candidates who engage in examination malpractice, such as talking inside examination halls, exchanging answer scripts, or engaging in disruptive behaviour.
Meanwhile, she stated that among examination staff, only centre supervisors and additional assistant supervisors are permitted to use mobile phones while on duty. Necessary instructions have already been issued to examination staff regarding this matter.
She further stressed that any examination staff member found to be involved in malpractice will face disciplinary action in accordance with the Examinations Act.
Meanwhile, Commissioner General Indika Kumari stated that no disaster-related incidents have been reported from any part of the island so far. She added that all relevant institutions remain prepared to respond promptly should any emergency situation arise.
