Sri Lanka Police says that Red Notices have been issued through Interpol to apprehend and bring back 93 wanted suspects hiding overseas in connection with crimes committed in Sri Lanka.  

Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F.U. Wootler revealed this while participating in a special press conference held today (13) to brief on progress of the “Ratama Ekata” national operation.  

He further stated that 38 suspects had been repatriated to Sri Lanka through Interpol Red Notices during 2024, 2025, and the period elapsed thus far this year.

In addition, the Police Media Spokesman revealed that another 35 prominent and notorious criminals had been brought back to the country through the direct intervention of the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Meanwhile, a special programme is currently underway to confiscate large amounts of property allegedly acquired illegally by suspects brought back to Sri Lanka, including vehicles, houses, gold and land, he further stated.

Accordingly, as an initial step towards transferring such assets to the state, action has been taken to freeze properties worth Rs. 1.49 billion in 2024 and Rs. 1.549 billion in 2025.

The Police Media Spokesman further said that, since January 1, 2026, initial legal proceedings have already been commenced to take into State custody illegally acquired assets worth Rs. 839 million.
