A complaint has been lodged with the Thalangama Police alleging that a stock of textbooks and activity books worth around Rs. 800,000, issued by the Department of Educational Publications, has not been properly handed over to the designated distribution centers.
The complaint was lodged by a senior female official of the Department of Educational Publications.
The Thalangama Police had received the complaint on August 12 regarding an incident in which 19,892 Tamil activity books and textbooks for Grade 1, issued by the Department of Educational Publications at the Ministry of Education in Isurupaya, had not been handed over to the designated distribution centers as required.
According to the complaint, permission had been obtained on May 4 to transport the stock of books to a company contracted by the Department of Educational Publications. However, the books had reportedly not been distributed as scheduled to 12 distribution centers in the Eastern Province.
The stock in question consists of books intended for the third term of Grade 1, with a total estimated value of around Rs. 800,000.
The Thalangama Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
