Notorious drug trafficker Shiran Basik and two other underworld figures, who were arrested recently in Dubai, have been brought back to Sri Lanka, a short while ago.
Shiran Basik, a 48-year-old resident of Kalubowila, Dehiwala, who is the subject of an Interpol 'Red Notice', had reportedly been arrested in Dubai by UAE security authorities after photographs and video footage of drones and missiles used by Iran in attacks on the UAE during the recent Iran-US conflict were found on his mobile phone.
The United States had also reportedly requested that he be handed over for further investigations.
Basik had travelled to the UAE in 2018 and was brought back to Sri Lanka today onboard AirArabia flight 3L708, which arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) from Abu Dhabi at around 8.48 p.m., Ada Derana reporter said.
Following his arrival, officers of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had recorded his statement at the airport.
He is expected to be taken to the Colombo Central Crime Investigation Bureau under tight security for further investigations.
