Search and rescue operations are continuing today (17) for the third consecutive day to locate the Sri Lanka Navy officer who went missing following the Dvora vessel of the Navy was involved in an accident in the seas off the coast of Angulana.

The accident occurred at around 11.40 a.m. on August 15, approximately three nautical miles off the Angulana coastline in Moratuwa, while returning to Colombo after completing a patrol.

A joint rescue operation involving the Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Air Force, Angulana Police and local fishing communities resulted in the rescue of 11 of the 12 naval personnel on board. The rescued personnel are currently receiving treatment at the Navy Hospital.

However, the missing Navy officer has not yet been located, and search operations are continuing today for the third consecutive day.

The missing officer has been identified as Lieutenant Udayapriya, a resident of Werahera, Boralesgamuwa.

Meanwhile, operations to recover the damaged Navy fast attack craft commenced yesterday (16), with the assistance of specialized diving teams from the Sri Lanka Navy.

However, rough sea conditions and strong winds in the area have made the recovery operation challenging, according to officials.
