The former Chairman of the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation, Mahil Senaratne, who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), has been granted bail.
He was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today (18), following his arrest earlier in the day on charges relating to corruption.
Senaratne, who served as Chairman of the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation from 2010 to 2012, is the brother of former Minister Rajitha Senaratne.
According to the allegations, during his tenure, the construction and renovation of fish outlets across the country were awarded directly to two selected companies without following the required procurement procedures.
He is also accused of exerting pressure on officials to facilitate payments to the two companies.
