Former Chairman of the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation Mahil Senaratne, who was granted bail after being arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), has been remanded after failing to fulfil the bail conditions.
Senaratne was produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today (18), where he was initially granted bail.
The court ordered his release on two surety bails of Rs. 2.5 million each and also imposed a travel ban preventing him from leaving the country.
However, as the suspect was unable to fulfil the required bail conditions, he was subsequently remanded, Ada Derana reporter said.
CIABOC arrested Mahil Senaratne earlier today over allegations of committing an offence of corruption.
The allegations relate to the period between 2010 and 2012, when Senaratne served as Chairman of the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation.
According to CIABOC, during this period, approvals were allegedly granted directly to two selected institutions for the construction and renovation of fish outlets across the country, without following the prescribed procurement procedures.
He is also accused of exerting pressure on officials to facilitate payments to the two institutions, thereby allegedly committing an offence of corruption.
