Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has today (19) presented the amended Anti-Corruption Bill to Parliament for approval, with the aim of strengthening the prevention of corruption, investigations and prosecutions in Sri Lanka, while ensuring transparency, accountability and good governance in public administration.
The key objectives of the amendments are to address legal and interpretational issues that have arisen in the implementation of the Act, inconsistencies between the Sinhala and English texts, challenges related to corruption investigations and prosecutions, administrative matters of the Commission, and practical and technical issues concerning the submission of declarations of assets and liabilities through the centralised electronic system, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Media Division.
The amendments are expected to strengthen the legal framework required for the effective functioning of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and to enable the Act to be implemented more efficiently and effectively, the statement said.
