The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has seized a stock of substandard vehicle spare parts and lubricating oil worth nearly Rs. 5 million during a raid on a shop in the Pasal Mawatha area along the Kadawatha-Ganemulla Road.
The raid was conducted by officers attached to the Competition Promotion Division of the CAA following information received regarding alleged violations, including the sale and storage of lubricating oil and vehicle spare parts in violation of Consumer Affairs Authority Orders No. 85 and 88, as well as the failure to display prices of goods.
The seized items have been sealed by CAA officers, while samples have been collected for further examination.
The CAA said further investigations into the incident are underway and that legal action will be taken against the shop owner and relevant sales agents.
Authorities have urged consumers to exercise caution when purchasing vehicle spare parts and lubricants and to verify the price, condition and relevant standards of products before making purchases.
Consumers who have information about the sale of suspicious vehicle spare parts or lubricants are urged to contact the CAA’s Consumer Hotline ‘ 1977 ’ during office hours.
