Advisory issued for high waves in sea areas around island
The Department of Meteorology has issued an “Amber” advisory for high waves in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Galle, Matara and Hambantota.
According to the Department of Meteorology, the swell waves of about 2.5 m - 3.0 m in height may increase in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Galle, Matara and Hambantota.
There is a possibility that near shore sea areas off the coast extending from Beruwala to Matara via Galle may experience surges due to swell waves, the Met. Department noted.
Accordingly, the naval and fishing communities who are engaged in fishing and naval activities in the above sea areas are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
