A three-year-old child died after being run over by a tractor in the Murasumoddai area of Kilinochchi, police said.
The incident occurred yesterday (21) when the deceased child and his brother had reportedly been playing on the trailer of a tractor that was parked at their home.
At the time, a relative started the tractor and attempted to turn it around within the yard while the children were still on the trailer.
According to police, the child fell from the trailer and was subsequently run over by the tractor’s rear wheel.
The child sustained serious injuries in the incident and was rushed to the Kilinochchi District General Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the tractor involved in the incident has been arrested, and Kilinochchi Police are conducting further investigations.
