Nearly 8,500 bottles of drinking water bearing a counterfeit SLS certification mark have been taken into custody by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) following a special raid in Avissawella.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the bottled water had been produced at a manufacturing facility in Amithirigala, Ruwanwella and stored at a warehouse in Avissawella.
Officials also found that bottles of drinking water in various sizes had been falsely labeled with the SLS certification mark and certificate number 894.
The investigation further revealed that the stock had not yet been released to the market but had been prepared for distribution.
The officials sealed and took into custody nearly 8,500 bottles during the raid.
The Consumer Affairs Authority said legal action will be taken against the responsible parties after the completion of further investigations.
