
Sri Lanka has recorded more than 1.46 million tourist arrivals since the beginning of the year, according to the latest figures issued by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).
A total of 1,468,980 tourists arrived in the country between January 1 and August 18, the SLTDA noted.
Meanwhile, during the first 18 days of August alone, Sri Lanka welcomed 125,562 tourists.
India remained the leading source market in August, accounting for 27,884 arrivals. The United Kingdom ranked second with 13,980 tourists, while France was third with 8,776 arrivals.
India has also been the largest contributor to Sri Lanka’s tourist arrivals so far this year, with 366,114 visitors. The United Kingdom followed with 144,381 arrivals, while China recorded 97,073 visitors.
February recorded the highest number of monthly tourist arrivals so far this year, with 279,328 visitors, according to the SLTDA.
