Underworld figure Lalith Kannangara, also known as 'Bus Lalith', who was arrested in Dubai has been brought to Sri Lanka this morning (25), Sri Lanka Police said.

A team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) escorted him back to Sri Lanka, Police Media Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F.U. Wootler said.

The suspect known as “Bus Lalith' was recently arrested by security authorities in Dubai.

He is wanted in connection with multiple allegations, including murder, other criminal activities, and extortion.

The 36-year-old suspect, a resident of Kalutara South, is also reportedly the subject of an Interpol Red Notice.

The CID has commenced further investigations into the suspect following his return to Sri Lanka.

A Red Notice was obtained by the Western Province South Crime Division in connection with a case pending before the Avissawella Magistrate’s Court.

The Colombo High Court has also issued an open warrant against him for failing to appear before the court in connection with a murder case.

Meanwhile, the Avissawella Magistrate’s Court has issued another open warrant against him in connection with an incident on September 20, 2021, during which he allegedly visited a residence in Neluntuduwa and attempted to shoot the occupant.

An additional open warrant has been issued by the Avissawella Magistrate’s Court against ‘Bus Lalith’ in connection with an incident on October 16, 2022, in which three individuals were allegedly attacked using a sharp weapon.
