Australian low-cost airline Jetstar has launched a new low-fare service between Australia and Sri Lanka, with its inaugural flight arriving at the Bandaranaike International Airport from Melbourne today (25).
The inaugural service, operated using a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, was welcomed with a traditional water salute upon arrival at the airport.
Jetstar flight JQ005 arrived at Katunayake at 6.24 p.m., carrying 271 passengers and 13 crew members from Melbourne.
The new service will operate three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, connecting Melbourne and Katunayake. The flight takes approximately 10 hours.
A special ceremony was held at the Silk Route passenger terminal at the Bandaranaike International Airport to mark the launch of the new service.
