The Department of Meteorology has issued an “Amber” advisory for strong winds and rough seas in the sea areas extending from Kankesanturai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.

 

According to the Department of Meteorology, the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankesanturai to Puttalam via Mannar, and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be rough at times with strong gusty winds up to (50-60) kmph.

 

The wave height may increase by about 2.0 – 2.5 meters in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Matara, it added.

 

Accordingly, the naval and fishing communities are requested to be vigilant in this regard.
